St James is a Matthew 25 Church

May 11, 2026 / 8:00 am - May 31, 2027 / 5:00 pm

BECOMING A MATTHEW 25 CHURCH? – At its April meeting, the Session at St. James decided to fully commit to St. James being a “Matthew 25 Church.”  In the P.C. (USA) denomination, a Matthew 25 church has as its main focus the teachings of Jesus found in Matthew 25:31-46 and calls church congregations to express God’s love in our communities by serving the marginalized, and “actively engaging in the world around us so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities.”

The three pillars of a P.C. (USA) Matthew 25 church are:  1) Building congregational vitality; 2) Dismantling structural racism; and 3) Eradicating systemic poverty.  Matthew 25 churches are asked to commit to and embrace one or more of those focus areas.  You may be thinking “St. James already does that,” but consider this as the next step to a deeper commitment in these areas – pillars upon which St. James will aggressively center its future ministries and by which St. James will be a more relevant presence in our community and in our world.  Please see https://pcusa.org/matthew25 for more information.
